"Beauty can be found in simplicity, but it's the complexities that invite you into the story."

Living by this self-penned motto, Andrew Robinson continuously searches for the daily inner complexities of simple personal interaction and music in his songwriting. Drawing from the vocal stylings of singer songwriter John Mayer, blues prodigy Jonny Lang, rocker Dave Grohl, and up and coming soul singer Marc Broussard, Andrew channels the energy and passion of those artistic influences and stretches them to their fullest potential, calming the most tortured soul and capturing the attention of an otherwise uninterested bar. With a vocal range that boasts over four octaves, there is very little that exists outside of Andrew's vocal spectrum.

1995. That was the year pop rock and blues music starting taking over Andrew's life. While most of his friends were listening to grunge, the acoustic based, "new" jam band era caught Andrew's ear. After hearing Dave Matthews Band, Phish, Hootie and the Blowfish, Edwin McCain, Jonny Lang, and Blues Traveler, Andrew found his niche. That year, he joined the high school choir, started playing bass guitar for jazz band, and tried out for the musical. Soon after, he picked up his dad's old acoustic guitar and an old Mel Bay chord chart. It wasn't long before Andrew wrote his first song for an unattainable crush.

Andrew studied music in college and spent several years singing bass and touring with college sanctioned choirs and a small a cappella vocal group, but was never able to make as strong of a connection with choral music as he was with the rock and pop music that relentlessly filled his mind. Most of his inspiration for his songwriting was found within the daily rigors and close personal interaction of a co-ed college life. His first stab at writing dealt with failed attempts with various relationships, but his mind yearned for a deeper meaning. Soon Andrew found himself taking a personal perspective from observations about complete strangers. "I never saw myself as that interesting of a person, but other people...other people are messed up! [laughs] There are plenty of people that possess enough drama to take the rest of us down with them. So I take what they do in public and I try to create a scenario within my own lyrical world. But then there are those people that sit in a coffee shop alone, sipping their coffee and observing the world with a smile on their face, completely content with where life has taken them. So I place them inside of a world that loves life regardless of which way the wind blows."

"There are thousands of bland and uninteresting songs. Then out of nowhere you hear a guitar solo that reshapes your soul; a bass line that reinterprets the boundaries of what you thought the bass could do; a snare hit on 2 and 4 that switches to 1 and 3 mid verse; a lyric that says what your heart has been saying for weeks but your mouth has failed to formulate into words; a simple harmony that expands to a diminished 6th. And for that one moment - and not a second too soon - the song transforms from something forgettable into something you have your grandkids listen to. Sometimes that's all it takes: one unforgettable moment of musical clarity. And that's what I challenge myself with every time I sit down to write...to create something worth remembering."
